About me
Hi, I’m Michael (he/they), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) providing virtual therapy to clients in New Jersey, Tennessee, and South Carolina (all places I have lived!). I began my social work journey over a decade ago supporting refugee families in Central Europe, and since then, my path has taken me across continents, communities, and care systems. I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of South Carolina in 2019 and have worked in youth development, rural mental health, and an urban trauma center. I'm currently pursuing a PhD in Social Work to deepen my commitment to creating more compassionate, culturally responsive systems of care.
I am bilingual and provide therapy in both English & Deutsch.
Outside of work, I love the performing arts, independent bookstores, and cozy coffee shops. I'm also a devoted reality TV fan (nothing excites me more than The Traitors). And during virtual sessions, you may catch a glimpse of my two cats, Aalya and Laila, who love to make surprise appearances.

My therapy approach
I don’t always like to use the word "healing"—it can feel too neat or final. But I believe we can mend the parts of ourselves that have been hurt with compassion and courage. I take an anti-oppressive approach, which means our work is shaped by an awareness of how systems like culture, history, and politics affect our lives. And let's face it, the world is on fire right now. So we can talk about that too.
I also believe therapy doesn’t always have to be heavy. Laughter, humor, and play help us grow our capacity for connection, and sometimes, not taking ourselves too seriously is part of the work.

I have training in and draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, depending on your goals and needs. These include:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), with advanced training in Somatic and Attachment-Focused EMDR, to support relieving stressful or stuck memories;
Internal Family Systems (IFS), to help explore the different “parts” of ourselves with compassion and curiosity;
Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), a trauma-processing therapy often used with immigrants and survivors of displacement;
Relational and Cultural Therapy (RCT), to understand deeper relational patterns and grow in connection to others;
Theraplay and attachment-based interventions, especially in work with adolescents and families;
Transformative Justice, an equity-centered approach to conflict and harm that focuses on accountability, relationship repair, and creating systems of care outside of punishment.
